How easy is it to install the Klir software appliance?

It is very easy to install the Klir Appliance. After you complete the online registration process you will receive a registration confirmation e-mail containing a link to download the software appliance installation file (*.msi) and a registration key.

  1. Copy the installation file (*.msi) to a Windows server that meets minimum specifications. The server should be allocated a fixed IP address (preferable in a production environment, not necessary for testing).
  2. Open the installation file on the Windows server.
  3. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.

To complete installation you will need the following information:

  • Registration key contained in the registration confirmation e-mail

Do I need to make any special provisions on my network to use the Klir solution?

TCP port 443 must be open on your firewall to permit the Klir Appliance to securely encrypt and transfer data back to our centralized data center. Additionally, your network must allows SNMP (UDP Port 161) communication between the monitored devices and the Klir Appliance.

The server should be configured and deployed to provide IP access to all infrastructure that you desire to monitor. For highly distributed network environments (e.g. multiple WANs) or where the device count exceeds 1,000 devices, pleace contact Klir Support to receive additional registration keys to enable multiple installations of the software appliance.

We have a Web proxy. Can the Klir Appliance still work?

The Klir Appliance supports an HTTP Proxy using the HTTP CONNECT method for both Flows and SNMP. When entering connectivity settings during the installation dialog you will be presented with a checkbox option to enable HTTP proxy service for outbound network connectivity. Enter your proxy IP address, port number, authentication type (Klir support HTTP basic or no authentication - Digest, NTLM, or custom authentication protocols are not currently supported), and your user name and password.

What versions of SNMP does Klir Support?

Klir supports SNMP v1, v2c, and v3 as defined in the standard RFCs.

Klir supports all three SNMP v3 authentication, encryption levels as defined in the standard RFCs, including noAuthNoPriv, authNoPriv, and authPriv. The authentication methods available are MD5 and SHA. The encryption method supported is DES.

What versions of NetFlow and sFlow does Klir Support?

Klir supports NetFlow v5 and sFlow v4 and v5.

Is Technical Support included with my subscription?

Support is included with all paid accounts. Klir Technologies understands the importance of effective support and we have provided several different ways for you to find answers to your questions.

Klir Analytics Online Help is contextually available to authenticated users when logged in to Klir Analytics and provides the most detailed and immediate information for answering user and technical questions. Both text and detailed video help are available, and the help section is updated regularly in response to user feedback and with each iterative product version release.
