"In a very decentralized organization, it's difficult to keep an eye on what's happening in the regional offices around the world. We use Klir tools to help us get a good handle on where the bottlenecks are in our network."

-Antonio Monteiro - Chief Information Officer, Internet Securities, Inc.

ISI Emerging Markets

Based in New York, Internet Securities Inc. (trading as ISI Emerging Markets) has a network of 28 offices around the globe. ISI delivers hard-to-obtain information in over 80 emerging markets through its flagship Emerging Markets Information Service (EMIS). Available through 15 language interfaces, it aggregates and produces unique content including full-text news articles, financial statements, company information, industry analyses, equity quotes, macroeconomic statistics, and market-specific information. EMIS offers powerful search capabilities with in-depth, timely and comprehensive coverage, which are derived directly from more than 12,000 local and global publications.

QUICK FACTS
For ISI, the Klir Analytics solution delivered:

  • Visibility into entire global network
  • Cost-effective solution that saved both time and money
  • Enhanced version developed to meet their specific needs
  • Reliable expert support
  • IT analytics tools that bring visibility to performance, utilization and network circuit configuration
  • Rapid deployment and ease of use

CHALLENGE
ISI has many offices that span the globe, which makes visibility a critical issue. "Our number one issue was visibility," said Antonio Monteiro, the Chief Information Officer for ISI. "We had no way of knowing what was going on in any of our offices which made solving problems a time consuming process."

ISI also needed a solution that didn't demand a great deal of management or financial investment. "Finding a hosted solution was really important to me. I didn't want to get involved with setting up servers," said Monteiro.

"There was also one other big issue we had to deal with," Monteiro said. "A lot of countries block SNMP protocol traffic, which manages routers. It's not free like it is in Western Europe and the United States. The reliance on that restricted protocol really limited our network visibility."

Monteiro needed an easy to use network management solution that he could get up and running quickly and would allow remote visibility into the networks.

SOLUTION
Prior to choosing Klir, ISI looked at various solutions, but most of these solutions were significantly more expensive. "The much higher price tag was prohibitive," Monterio said. ISI also looked at HP OpenView. "HP OpenView was a very daunting project - I just didn't have the bandwidth to do that."

Klir Analytics is the first IT analytics solution offered as a managed service via a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model. The SaaS model ensures rapid deployment, reduces the burden on IT staff and provides enterprise-class reliability at a fraction of the cost of traditional enterprise solutions.

RESULTS
ISI experienced numerous benefits even as the solution was being deployed. "I didn't want to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in hardware. I was relieved to find Klir. And having a monthly subscription is great. From a budget perspective it was really easy to make it happen," Monteiro said.

Monteiro was impressed with the ease with which the solution was installed, and the visibility they achieved with Klir. "We rolled out the Klir solution in Moscow, Kiev, Hong Kong, Budapest, Istanbul, Mexico and Chile, to start with," he said. "Now we can immediately see the physical status of our network. Before, if some application stopped working, we had no way of telling what was going on. Now we can monitor a specific application and we can get a good handle on solving the problem. Klir also allows us to pre-empt problems, which was never possible before."

Klir also responded to ISI's unique requests. "Klir understood our restricted protocol problem and responded by developing software specifically aimed at solving that issue," Monteiro said. "The solution Klir created runs behind the firewall, which alleviated our reliance on the restricted protocol."

ISI is also pleased with the depth of knowledge they've experienced working with the Klir support team. "The Klir team are real experts and know what they're doing. They were very straightforward and answered whatever questions we had," Monteiro said.

Overall ISI is very pleased with their user experience and with the range of improvements they've received from the Klir team. "There have been benefits for us from start to finish. There was no up front cost and I can just turn it on and off when I want to. It couldn't be more simple. Klir was definitely the right solution for us," he said.
